About
Jimmy Sherman is a bagpiper, whistle player, composer, and arranger from the Twin Cities, Minnesota. He's studied the traditions and pushed the boundaries of bagpiping for nearly three decades, and holds certification in Highland Piping from the College of Piping in Glasgow, Scotland.
Jimmy has been a piper with the Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band of Saint Paul, MN, a sixty year old entity, for more than 25 years. Within the band, he holds an officer’s rank and is the principal tuner. Jimmy can also frequently be found on stage or in the pub with Twin Cities-based band The Northerly Gales.
Outside of these two main projects, Jimmy performs frequently as a solo piper for a wide variety of events, ranging from funerals and weddings to whisky tastings and parades. He can even be found piping at the occasional rock or metal show. He's contributed his playing and compositions to numerous recordings, both through his own projects and as a guest musician.
Whether through the Great Highland Bagpipes, Scottish smallpipes, or whistle, the esteem with which Jimmy holds this ancient craft is easily heard in his playing.
